[How to] Creating a Bootable USB Flash Drive for Windows 8 Consumer Preview

Windows 8 Consumer Preview is finally here! This version of Windows is touted as the next major release since Windows 95. If you want to try it, the installation file is now available for download from Microsoft website. The installation files is distributed in ISO file format. The ISO file can be used directly on virtual machine, but if you plan to install on a physical computer you need to create a bootable DVD or USB flash drive first. In this tutorial we will guide you to create bootable USB flash drive for Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

What do you need?


Lets started:

  • Install and start the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool.
  • Locate downloaded ISO file and click next.


  • On the next screen click the USB Device button.


  • Plug USB flash drive to your computer and select newly pluged USB drive from the combobox. Make sure to backup all data from your USB drive first. If there is no enough free space in the USB drive, Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool will require you to delete all contents before continue.


  • Wait for copying process to finish.


  • Done!
